A group of eight students from CATS Cambridge will get a taste of Medical life next week when they spend five days living and working alongside the doctors and nurses of Papworth hospital.
CATS is the only college to offer such an opportunity, which will allow students to live in staff accommodation, shadow consultants in the respiratory and cardiac departments and gain experience of an NHS hospital ward.
The prospective medical students will visit the famous heart and lung hospital, which was home to the first successful heart transplant in the UK. This work experience forms part of a comprehensive Medical Programme organised by the Guilly Lassman, tutor at the college, designed to prepare students to enter top ranking Medical Schools in the UK.
Janet Holden, Deputy Head of Science at CATS Cambridge, said:
"Applying to Medical School in the UK can be a bewildering experience. Applications are many times greater than places and it is extremely competitive. Without expert guidance your application will almost certainly fail. Here at CATS we have a dedicated Medic Programme especially designed to meet the needs of prospective medical students.CATS Cambridge is a leading independent Sixth Form College located in the heart of Cambridge city centre. Offering a range of qualifications including A-level, University Foundation and Cambridge Pre-U programmes, the college has a long history of successfully placing students in some of the best Universities and Medical Schools in the UK and overseas.
Last year we had 100% success rate with those applying gaining offers. This was in part due to the unique relationship CATS has with the world renowned Papworth Hospital. You will learn what it is like to work as a medic in an NHS hospital. This greatly adds to your personal profile and is essential when preparing your personal statement."
